Testing Out IIFYM

So I finally stepped on the scale yesterday, and was pleasantly surprised to see that I had only put on about .6 of a pound over my 4 weeks of holidays.

Seriously, never thought I’d be so happy to see that, because I drank, ate, got a cold/flu twice, drank more….so I’m VERY pleased with that number. I’d been dreading weighing myself for about a week now, and even had a nightmare about stepping on the scale and seeing 192! :O

So I’m very happy to hit it once again, knowing I did not put myself very far behind.

And so with that, I’m doing a different program for 12-weeks to see if I can get some better results. So with all the hype of IIFYM, I decided to look it up and do some reading! For those of you who feel out of that loop, IIFYM stands for “If It Fits Your Macros”. “Macros” or macro-nutrients are the breakdown of our diets in carbohydrates, fat, protein, and fiber. Wine and chocolate don’t have their own categories…I know, I’m bummed more than anyone else.

There’s bad news, and there’s good news.

BAD NEWS: IIFYM is basically the idea that you use a calculator located here that gives you an alloted daily calorie amount, using a formula that takes into account your lifestyle and # of times you workout per week. For how much weight you choose to lose, you subtract 10%, 15%, or 20% (up to 25% max) from your calorie number. You don’t have to “eat clean” 24/7…the idea is if you want to lose weight and eat something “dirty” once in awhile (or everyday) you can do that! As long as it fits within your macros. The bad news my friends…is that I have already been doing this.

GOOD NEWS: For me to try this out, I don’t have to make any huge adjustment to what I have currently been doing with MyFitnessPal and my workout routine. Instead of me eating anywhere between 1700-2300 calories per day depending on how hard I work out, I just eat a steady 1750-1869 (25%-20%) for aggressive weight loss. I eat that number even on a rest day, which is a little crazy for me to understand.

My whole point of learning to eat right and exercise is so I wouldn’t become a “clean-eating” person, not because I despise anyone who does, but because I work in an oilfield camp for half the month, it’s almost impossible for me to do that. Sometimes, I have to eat a little dirty guys…I can’t help it.

Hopefully I see some results from this here IIFYM buisness….if you are on IIFYM, feel free to leave me some tips!!!

side note…congrats if you have finally been filled in on IIFYM πŸ™‚
