Get Creative With Your Food

At some point you are going to get bored. You are going to pull “chicken and salad” out for lunch, and you’re going to feel like it is not enough. You’ve already had it four times this week.

Smoothies become less exciting because you’ve run your course on every recipe out there, and have a decided few that are tried-and-true. You’re stuck in your food rut. Don’t worry, you’re not the only person in the world that had that happen.

If this is happening to you, spark your interest for food again by taking some steps to be creative in your healthy menu. Since it’s winter, let’s make things hot to combat the cold.

Some ideas to get you started 🙂

  • BROIL your fruit! Sounds weird to some, but honestly it may change your life. I got kinda bored with pre-workout snacks…till I saw a post on broiled grapefruit. Just sprinkle a bit of sugar, dab a little honey, and stick in the oven on low or high (depending on how hot you want it) and serve with yogurt. So easy! Experiment with different fruit, and heck even top with berries. So rewarding…and like dessert.
  • PERSONALIZE your favorite recipe! Take the base of a recipe, and change something in it to make it your own. For instance, making baked pasta with ground chicken or turkey instead of beef, using fresh tomatoes instead of canned, and adding some unexpected spice to it. When it comes out delicious, you’ll be encouraged by your creative side.
  • INDOOR grill it! Some of us who aren’t Canadian may still want the BBQ experience without standing in -40 C degrees. Invest in an indoor grill like a George Foreman and use interchangeable plates for everything from waffles to burgers. Fruit AND veggies can be put in as well! Make those turkey or black bean burgers taste like the real thing!
  • DESSERT for one! Mugcakes are all the Pinterest rage right now. Feeling like you want something sweet, but you don’t want any of the “banned food” in the house? There are tons of healthy mugcake recipes online for under 300 calories. Cookie dough, peanut butter and chocolate, blueberry lemon…you name it. And the best part? They take 5 minutes to make because it just goes into the microwave, and there’s no leftovers.

That’s just to get you started! These are a few of the things I have learned recently. At least promise me you will try the broiled grapefruit. You’ll love it, and it’ll make your house smell divine.
